MnTe phase diagram에서 특이한 사항은 Mn과 Te의 조성비에 따라서, MnTe, MnTe+MnTe2 혼합, MnTe2, MnTe2 +Te 의 다양한 형태로 합성이 된다. Mn은 산소와의 반응도가 매우 높아, 고온에서 석영관을 이용해 합성할 경우, 석영이 SiO 혹은 Si의 형태로 변형이 되어 석영관이 파손되는 경우가 빈번하다. 이러한 이유로 MnTe는 주로 고순도 탄소봉을 이용해 합성을 해야한다.
